Magnetic spin–orbit interaction of light显示文摘We study the directional excitation of optical surface waves controlled by the magnetic field of light. We theoretically predict that a spinning magnetic dipole develops a tunable unidirectional coupling of light to transverse electric(TE)polarized Bloch surface waves(BSWs).Experimentally,we show that the helicity of light projected onto a subwavelength groove milled into the top layer of a 1D photonic crystal(PC)controls the power distribution between two TE-polarized BSWs excited on both sides of the groove.Such a phenomenon is shown to be solely mediated by the helicity of the magnetic optical field, thus revealing a magnetic spin-orbit interaction of light.Remarkably, this magnetic optical effect is clearly observed via a near-field coupler governed by an electric dipole moment:it is of the same order of magnitude as the electric optical effects involved in the coupling. This opens up new degrees of freedom for the manipulation of light and offers desirable and novel opportunities for the development of integrated optical functionalities.Mengjia Wang Hongyi Zhang Tatiana Kovalevich Roland Salut Myun-Sik Kim Miguel Angel Suarez Maria-Pilar Bernal Hans-Peter Herzig Huihui Lu Thierry Grosjean 2018Light(Science & Applications)2018,7,1:15
Indian Ocean temperature dipole and SSTA in the equatorial Pacific Ocean显示文摘The observed sea surface temperature (SST) data of recent 100 years are analyzed and the existence of the Indian Ocean temperature dipole in the equatorial region is exposed further. It is very clear that the amplitude of the positive phase (higher SST in the west and lower SST in the east than normal) is larger than that of the negative phase (higher SST in the east and lower SST in the west). The di-pole is stronger in September-November and weaker in January-April than in other months and it also appears obviously inter-annual and inter-decadal variations. Al-though the Indian Ocean dipole in the individual year seems to be independent of ENSO in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, in general, the Indian Ocean dipole has obviously negative correlation with the Pacific Ocean dipole (similar to the in-verse phase of ENSO mode). The atmospheric zonal (Walker) circulation over the equator is fundamental to relate the two dipoles to each other.Chongyin Li Mingquan Mu Jing Pan 2002Chinese Science Bulletin2002,47,3:13
Super-resolution dipole orientation mapping via polarization demodulation显示文摘Fluorescence polarization microscopy(FPM)aims to detect the dipole orientation of fluorophores and to resolve structural information for labeled organelles via wide-field or confocal microscopy.Conventional FPM often suffers from the presence of a large number of molecules within the diffraction-limited volume, with averaged fluorescence polarization collected from a group of dipoles with different orientations. Here,we apply sparse deconvolution and least-squares estimation to fluorescence polarization modulation data and demonstrate a super-resolution dipole orientation mapping(SDOM)method that resolves the effective dipole orientation from a much smaller number of fluorescent molecules within a sub-diffraction focal area.We further apply this method to resolve structural details in both fixed and live cells. For the first time,we show that different borders of a dendritic spine neck exhibit a heterogeneous distribution of dipole orientation.Furthermore,we illustrate that the dipole is always perpendicular to the direction of actin filaments in mammalian kidney cells and radially distributed in the hourglass structure of the septin protein under specific labelling. The accuracy of the dipole orientation can be further mapped using the orientation uniform factor, which shows the superiority of SDOM compared with its wide-field counterpart as the number of molecules is decreased within the smaller focal area.Using the inherent feature of the orientation dipole, the SDOM technique, with its fast imaging speed(at sub-second scale),can be applied to a broad range of fluorescently labeled biological systems to simultaneously resolve the valuable dipole orientation information with super-resolution imaging.Karl Zhanghao Long Chen Xu-San Yang Miao-Yan Wang Zhen-Li Jing Hong-Bin Han Michael Q Zhang Dayong Jin Jun-Tao Gao Peng Xi 2016Light(Science & Applications)2016,5,1:11
THE INTERACTION BETWEEN CRACK AND ELECTRIC DIPOLE OF PIEZOELECTRICITY显示文摘Discrete dipoles located near the crack tip play an important role in nonlinear electric fieldinduced fracture of piezoelectric ceramics.A physico-mathematical model of dipole is constructed of two gen-eralized concentrated piezoelectric forces with equal density and opposite sign. The interaction between crackand electric dipole in piezoelectricity is analyzed. The closed form solutions, including those for stress andelectric displacement, crack opening displacement and electric potential, are obtained. The function of pi-ezoelectric anisotropie direction,p_a(θ)=cosθ+p_asinθ,can be used to express the influence of a dipole’sdirection. In the case that a dipole locates near crack tip,the piezoelectric stress intensity factor is a powerfunction with-3/2 index of the distance between dipole and crack tip.Wang Jiwei Kuang Zhenbang 2000Acta Mechanica Solida Sinica2000,13,4:7
INTRACLOUD LIGHTNING DISCHARGES IN THE LOWER PART OF THUNDERCLOUD显示文摘From analysis of observational data of thunderstorms in Gansu,China,it was deduced that the electricstructure of thunderclouds in this region is often positive charge in the upper, main negative in the middlelayer and another positive charge, large in magnitude and extensive in dimension,in the lower part.Intra-cloud discharges often take place between the main negative charge and lower positive charge instead of upper.Case analysis of 6 intracloud discharges in two storms on August 3 and 4,1986 shows that the centers of thesedischarges and the dipole moments destroyed were at the altitude of 3.8—6 km msl(7.6—-13.5℃)and 18—40 C km,respectively.刘欣生 叶宗秀 邵选民 王才伟 言穆弘 郭昌明 1989Acta meteorologica Sinica1989,3,2:6
Ferroelectric nonlinear anomalous Hall effect in few-layer WTe_(2)显示文摘Under broken time reversal symmetry such as in the presence of external magnetic field or internal magnetization,a transverse voltage can be established in materials perpendicular to both longitudinal current and applied magnetic field, known as classical Hall effect. However, this symmetry constraint can be relaxed in the nonlinear regime, thereby enabling nonlinear anomalous Hall current in time-reversal invariant materials–an underexplored realm with exciting new opportunities beyond classical linear Hall effect. Here, using group theory and first-principles theory,we demonstrate a remarkable ferroelectric nonlinear anomalous Hall effect in time-reversal invariant few-layer WTe_(2) where nonlinear anomalous Hall current switches in odd-layer WTe_(2) except 1T′monolayer while remaining invariant in even-layer WTe_(2) upon ferroelectric transition. This even-odd oscillation of ferroelectric nonlinear anomalous Hall effect was found to originate from the absence and presence of Berry curvature dipole reversal and shift dipole reversal due to distinct ferroelectric transformation in even and odd-layer WTe_(2).Our work not only treats Berry curvature dipole and shift dipole on an equal footing to account for intraband and interband contributions to nonlinear anomalous Hall effect, but also establishes Berry curvature dipole and shift dipole as new order parameters for noncentrosymmetric materials. The present findings suggest that ferroelectric metals and Weyl semimetals may offer unprecedented opportunities for the development of nonlinear quantum electronics.Hua Wang Xiaofeng Qian 2019npj Computational Materials2019,,1:5
Influence of steric and intramolecular inductive effects on the variable trends in R-X (R=Alkyl) bond dissociation energy显示文摘The question 'why are the variation trends of R-X bond dissociation energy different?' is answered. The R-X bond dissociation energy (BDE) may be influenced by three main factors: the C-X intrinsic bond energy, the 1,3 geminal repulsion, and the intramolecular charge-induced dipole. In the presence of atom X, the variation trend of BDE in R-X (R= Me, Et, i-Pr, t-Bu) is dominated by two factors, the 1,3 geminal repulsion and the intramolecular charge-induced dipole. The former decreases the R-X BDE, and the latter either increases or decreases the R-X BDE. For the series of R-X with the R-C bond (such as R-Me, R-CH == CH2, R-C≡CH, and R-CN), the 1,3 geminal repulsion decreases the R-X BDE, and the variation trends of R-C BDE decrease from Me to t-Bu. As regards the series of R-X (such as R-H, R-BH2, and R-SiH2) in which the electronegativity of atom X is smaller than that of the carbon atom, the above two factors decrease the R-X BDE, and the variation trends of the R-X BDE decrease from Me to t-Bu. As to the series of R-X (such as R-F, R-OH, R-Cl, R-Br, R-I, and R-NH2) in which the electronegativity of atom X is larger than that of the carbon atom, the 1,3 geminal repulsion decreases the R-X BDE, while the intramolecular charge-induced dipole increases the R-X BDE. In this case, the variation trends of R-X BDE depend on the competition of the two factors. As a result, some of them (e. g., R-F, R-OH) increase from Me to t-Bu, some (e. g., R-I) decrease from Me to t-Bu, and some (e. g., R-Br) change very little.CAO ChenZhong School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Hunan University of Science and Technology, Xiangtan 411201, China 2009Science China Chemistry2009,52,7:4
Characterizing optical dipole trap via fluorescence of trapped cesium atoms显示文摘Optical dipole trap (ODT) is becoming an important tool of manipulating neu- tral atoms. In this paper ODT is realized with a far-off resonant laser beam strongly fo- cused in the magneto-optical trap (MOT) of cesium atoms. The light shift is measured by simply monitoring the fluorescence of the atoms in the magneto-optical trap and the opti- cal dipole trap simultaneously. The advantages of our experimental scheme are discussed, and the effect of the beam waist and power on the potential of dipole trap as well as heating rate is analyzed.LIU Tao GENG Tao YAN Shubin LI Gang ZHANG Jing WANG Junmin PENG Kunchi ZHANG Tiancai 2006Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2006,49,3:4
Large dipole moment induced efficient bismuth chromate photocatalysts for wide-spectrum driven water oxidation and complete mineralization of pollutants显示文摘Herein,a wide-spectrum(~678 nm)responsive Bi8(CrO4)O11 photocatalyst with a theoretical solar spectrum efficiency of 42.0%was successfully constructed.Bi8(CrO4)O11 showed highly efficient and stable photocatalytic water oxidation activity with a notable apparent quantum efficiency of 2.87%(420 nm),superior to many reported wide-spectrum driven photocatalysts. Most remarkably, its strong oxidation ability also enables the simultaneous degradation and complete mineralization for phenol, and its excellent performance is about 23.0 and 2.9 times higher than CdS and P25-TiO2,respectively.Its high activity is ascribed to the giant internal electric field induced by its large crystal dipole, which accelerates the rapid separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.Briefly, the discovery of wide-spectrum bismuth chromate and the mechanism of exponentially enhanced photocatalytic performance by increasing the crystal dipole throw light on improving solar energy conversion.Xianjie Chen Yuan Xu Xinguo Ma Yongfa Zhu 2020National Science Review2020,7,3:4
Equilibrium position of misfit dislocation dipole and critical parameters of buried strained nanoscale inhomogeneity in system of viscoelastic matrix显示文摘A theoretical model was suggested which describes the generation of the misfit dislocation dipole in the system of the viscoelastic matrix containing a circular stiff nanoscale inhomogeneity. The critical condition of misfit dislocation dipole and the solution of equilibrium position were given. The influence of the ratio of shear modulus, the misfit strain and viscosity on the equilibrium of the dislocation and critical parameter of inhomogeneity was investigated. The result shows that the equilibrium position de increases with the increase of the ratio of original shear modulus and the effect decreases with the increase of viscosity of matrix.Along with the increase of viscosity of matrix,de first increases and then decreases and possesses maximum value when t=0.3τ and tends to a stable value when t≥1.0τ.Along with the increase of viscosity of matrix,Rc first decreases and then increases and possesses minimum value when t=0.3τ and tends to a stable value when t≥1.0τ.刘又文 谢超 方棋洪 2008Journal of Central South University2008,15,S1:3
Influence of rock fractures on the amplitude of dipole-source refl ected shear wave显示文摘To identify refl ector fractures near borehole by using dipole-source refl ected-shearwave logging, we need to understand the relation between the amplitude of the refl ected shear wave and the source radiation, borehole conditions, and attenuation owing to the surrounding formations. To assess the effect of these factors on the amplitude of the refl ected waves, we first studied the radiation performance and radiation direction of the dipole source in fast, medium, and slow formations by using the asymptotic solution in the far fi eld of the borehole. Then, the relation between the fracture parameters, and the refl ected-shear-wave amplitude as well as the ratio of the refl ected-shear-wave amplitude to the direct-wave amplitude (relative amplitude, RA) was evaluated by the three-dimensional fi nite-difference (3D FDTD) method. Finally, the fracture detection capability of the dipole reflected-shear-wave logging tool in different formations was analyzed by using the RA. The results suggest that the radiation amplitude of the SH-wave in the slow formation is weaker than those in the fast and medium formations, and the amplitude of the refl ected shear wave is lower. However, the RA in the slow formation is close to or even greater than in the fast and medium formations, which means that dipole-source shear-wave logging has the same or even better fracture detection capability in the slow formation as in the fast and medium formations. In addition, when RA is small, there is a good correlation between the RA and the various fracture parameters in the different types of formation, which can be used in determining the lower limit of the fracture parameters identifi ed by refl ection logging.Wang Hao Li Ning Wang Cai-Zhi Wu Hong-Liang Liu Peng Li Yu-Sheng Liu Ying-Ming Yuan Ye 2019Applied Geophysics2019,16,1:3
Isospin and symmetry energy study in nuclear EOS显示文摘This paper summarizes the isoscaling and isospin related studies in asymmetry nuclear reactions by different dynamic and sta tistical models. Isospin dependent quantum molecular dynamics model (IQMD) and lattice gas model (LGM) are used to study the isoscaling properties and isoscaling parameters dependence on incident energies, impact parameters, temperature and other parameters. In the LGM model, the signal of phase transition has been found in free neutron (proton) chemical potential dif ference Δμn or Δμp as a function of temperature, or in free neutron and proton chemical potential difference Δμn-Δμp. Density dependence of symmetry energy coefficient Csym(ρ/ρ0) is also studied in the frame of LGM, with the potential parameters which can reproduce the nuclear ground state property, soft density dependence of symmetry energy is deduced from the sim ulation results. Giant dipole resonance (GDR) induced by isospin asymmetry in entrance channel is also studied via IQMD model, and the dynamic dipole resonance shows isospin sensitivity on the isospin asymmetry of entrance channel and sym metry energy of the nuclear equation of state (EOS). GDR can also be regarded as a possible isospin sensitive signature.TIAN WenDong1, MA YuGang1, CAI XiangZhou1, FANG DeQing1, WANG HongWei1 & WU HongLi1,2 1 Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai 201800, China 2 Graduate School of University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei 230026, China 2011Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,S1:3
A sea temperature data assimilation system for the China Seas and adjacent areas显示文摘A sea temperature data assimilation system forthe China Seas and adjacent areas is developed based on anested regional ocean circulation model and variational op-timal interpolation assimilation method. A 12-year assimila-tion experiment is performed by using the observationaltemperature profiles from World Ocean Database 1998(WOD98) and ECMWF reanalysis surface wind stress. Ex-perimental results indicate that the variational schemeshows good skill in assimilating the observed sea temperatureinto a regional ocean circulation model. Compared withsimulation alone, the sea temperature data assimilation sig-nificantly improves the performance of a regional oceanmodel and obtains comprehensive description of the circula-tions in the China Seas and adjacent areas. Assimilation re-sults, such as the strength and flowing axis of the Kuroshio,Yellow Sea Cold Water Mass and its corresponding horizon-tal circulation in summer and dipole eddies in the SouthChina Sea in the late summer/early autumn and the east-ward jet between them, are well consistent with the observedevidences.YOU Xiaobao, ZHOU Guangqing, ZHU Jiang LI Rongfeng LASG, Institutel of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100029, China 2003Chinese Science Bulletin2003,48,S2:3

Selective excitation of a three-dimensionally oriented single plasmonic dipole显示文摘We experimentally demonstrate a scheme to deterministically excite a three-dimensionally oriented electric dipole in a single Au nanosphere by using a tightly focused radially polarized beam whose focal field possesses polarization states along three-dimensional(3D) orientations owing to the spatial overlap between longitudinal and radial electric field components. Experiment observations indicate that the orientation of an excited dipole moment gradually changes from out-of-plane to in-plane when the nanosphere is moved away from the beam center, which is reconfirmed by full-wave simulations. Moreover, rigorous calculation based on Mie theory reveals that a reduced effective ambient permittivity accompanies the rotation of the dipole moment, leading to a blue-shifted and narrowed resonance peak. We envision that our results could find applications in detecting the 3D orientation of isolated molecules and benefit the fine manipulation of light–matter interactions at the single-molecule level.FAJUN XIAO GUANGLIN WANG XUETAO GAN WUYUN SHANG SHIYIN CAO WEIREN ZHU TING MEI MALIN PREMARATNE JIANLIN ZHAO 2019Photonics Research2019,7,6:3
Effects of boundary conditions on vibrating mode of acoustic logging dipole transducer显示文摘Acoustic transducer is an important part of acoustic well logging tool. In this paper,ANSYS software package is used to design acoustic dipole transducer and simulate vibrating mode of the dipole transducer in different mechanical boundary conditions. The results show that boundary conditions influence the number of vibrating mode in the same frequency band and the frequency value of the same vibrating mode. Several acoustic dipole transducers are designed according to the results of numerical simulation and laboratory measurements. The basic frequency of vibrating mode of experi-ment has good agreement with that of simulation. The numerical simulation plays a good guidance role in designing, producing and correctly installing the acoustic dipole transducer.QIAO WenXiao,CHE XiaoHua & ZHANG Fei State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resource and Prospecting,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 2008Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S2:3

The role of initial signals in the tropical Pacific Ocean in predictions of negative Indian Ocean Dipole events显示文摘Using reanalysis data, the role of initial signals in the tropical Pacific Ocean in predictions of negative Indian Ocean Dipole(IOD) events were analyzed. It was found that the summer predictability barrier(SPB) phenomenon exists in predictions, which is closely related to initial sea temperature errors in the tropical Pacific Ocean, with type-1 initial errors presenting a significant west-east dipole pattern in the tropical Pacific Ocean, and type-2 initial errors showing the opposite spatial pattern. In contrast, SPB-related initial sea temperature errors in the tropical Indian Ocean are relatively small. The initial errors in the tropical Pacific Ocean induce anomalous winds in the tropical Indian Ocean by modulating the Walker circulation in the tropical oceans. In the first half of the prediction year, the anomalous winds, combined with the climatological winds in the tropical Indian Ocean, induce a basin-wide mode of sea surface temperature(SST) errors in the tropical Indian Ocean. With the reversal of the climatological wind in the second half of the prediction year, a west-east dipole pattern of SSTerrors appears in the tropical Indian Ocean, which is further strengthened under the Bjerknes feedback, yielding a significant SPB. Moreover, two types of precursors were also identified: a significant west-east dipole pattern in the tropical Pacific Ocean and relatively small temperature anomalies in the tropical Indian Ocean. Under the combined effects of temperature anomalies in the tropical Indian and Pacific oceans, northwest wind anomalies appear in the tropical Indian Ocean, which induce a significant west-east dipole pattern of SST anomalies, and yield a negative IOD event.Rong FENG Wansuo DUAN 2018Science China Earth Sciences2018,61,12:2
Use of electrosense in the feeding behavior of sturgeons显示文摘The electro-receptive lateral line system appeared early in the evolutionary history of fish.Sturgeons, members of the primitive Chondrostei group, are known for their electroreceptors(ampullae of Lorenzini)on the head, which are thought to be sensitive to weak electric fields in aquatic environments and involved in feeding, mating and migration. Here,we report the results of a set of behavioral and electrophysiological experiments designed to determine the function and characteristics of the electrosense in cultured sturgeons. The results showed Sibe-rian sturgeon(Acipenser baerii Brandt,1869)feeding striking at bio-electric fields produced by living feed-fish enclosed in a gel chamber and at the corrosion field produced by metal rods. With an electric stimulus that mim-ics the bio-electric fields produced by living prey, the relative discharge rate of electrosensory neurons in the dorsal octavolateralis nucleus(DON)was modulated by and phase-locked to sinusoidal stimulus and some units showed selectivity for dipolar direction in white sturgeon(Acipenser transmontanus Richardson,1836).This is the first study to provide the empirical evidence correlating with electrosensory behaviors and electrophysiolog-ical responses in cultured sturgeons, and suggesting that electrosense does play an innate role in feeding behav-ior of sturgeon. We believe this will have important implications for protecting sturgeons in the wild.Xuguang ZHANG Jiakun SONG Chunxin FAN Hongyi GUO Xiaojie WANG Horst BLECKMANN 2012Integrative Zoology2012,7,1:2
Investigating the Initial Errors that Cause Predictability Barriers for Indian Ocean Dipole Events Using CMIP5 Model Outputs显示文摘By analyzing the outputs of the pre-industrial control runs of four models within phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project, the effects of initial sea temperature errors on the predictability of Indian Ocean Dipole events were identified. The initial errors cause a significant winter predictability barrier(WPB) or summer predictability barrier(SPB).The WPB is closely related with the initial errors in the tropical Indian Ocean, where two types of WPB-related initial errors display opposite patterns and a west–east dipole. In contrast, the occurrence of the SPB is mainly caused by initial errors in the tropical Pacific Ocean, where two types of SPB-related initial errors exhibit opposite patterns, with one pole in the subsurface western Pacific Ocean and the other in the upper eastern Pacific Ocean. Both of the WPB-related initial errors grow the fastest in winter, because the coupled system is at its weakest, and finally cause a significant WPB. The SPB-related initial errors develop into a La Ni ?na–like mode in the Pacific Ocean. The negative SST errors in the Pacific Ocean induce westerly wind anomalies in the Indian Ocean by modulating the Walker circulation in the tropical oceans. The westerly wind anomalies first cool the sea surface water in the eastern Indian Ocean. When the climatological wind direction reverses in summer, the wind anomalies in turn warm the sea surface water, finally causing a significant SPB. Therefore, in addition to the spatial patterns of the initial errors, the climatological conditions also play an important role in causing a significant predictability barrier.Rong FENG Wansuo DUAN 2018Advances in Atmospheric Sciences2018,35,10:2
