1Emodin alleviates intestinal mucosal injury in rats with severe acute pancreatitis via the caspase-1 inhibition显示文摘BACKGROUND:Emodin,a traditional Chinese medicine,has a therapeutic effect on severe acute pancreatitis(SAP),whereas the underlying mechanism is still unclear.Studies showed that the intestinal mucosa impairment,and subsequent release of endotoxin and proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β,which further leads to the dysfunction of multiple organs,is the potentially lethal mechanism of SAP.Caspase-1,an IL-1β-converting enzyme,plays an important role in this cytokine cascade process.Investigation of the effect of emodin on regulating the caspase-1 expression and the release proinflammatory cytokines will help to reveal mechanism of emodin in treating SAP.METHODS:Eighty Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into four groups(n=20 each group):SAP,sham-operated(SO),emodin-treated(EM) and caspase-1 inhibitor-treated(ICE-I) groups.SAP was induced by retrograde infusion of 3.5% sodium taurocholate into the pancreatic duct.Emodin and caspase-1 inhibitor were given 30 minutes before and 12 hours after SAP induction.Serum levels of IL-1β,IL-18 and endotoxin,histopathological alteration of pancreas tissues,intestinal mucosa,and the intestinal caspase-1 m RNA and protein expressions were assessed 24 hours after SAP induction.RESULTS:Rats in the SAP group had higher serum levels of IL-1β and IL-18(P<0.05),pancreatic and gut pathological scores(P<0.05),and caspase-1 m RNA and protein expressions(P<0.05) compared with the SO group.Compared with the SAP group,rats in the EM and ICE-I groups had lower IL-1β and IL-18 levels(P<0.05),lower pancreatic and gut pathological scores(P<0.05),and decreased expression of intestine caspase-1 m RNA(P<0.05).Ultrastructural analysis by transmission electron microscopy found that rats in the SAP group had vaguer epithelial junctions,more disappeared intercellular joints,and more damaged intracellular organelles compared with those in the SO group or the EM and ICE-I groups.CONCLUSIONS:Emodin alleviated pancreatic and intestinal mucosa injury in experimental SAP.Its mechanism may partly be mediated by the inhibition of caspase-1 and its downstream inflammatory cytokines,including IL-1β and IL-18.Our animal data may be applicable in clinical practice.Jian-Wen Ning Yan Zhang Mo-Sang Yu Meng-Li Gu Jia Xu Ali Usman Feng Ji 2017Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2017,16,4:15
2Energy-efficient Virtual Machine Allocation Technique Using Flower Pollination Algorithm in Cloud Datacenter:A Panacea to Green Computing显示文摘Cloud computing has attracted significant interest due to the increasing service demands from organizations offloading computationally intensive tasks to datacenters.Meanwhile,datacenter infrastructure comprises hardware resources that consume high amount of energy and give out carbon emissions at hazardous levels.In cloud datacenter,Virtual Machines(VMs)need to be allocated on various Physical Machines(PMs)in order to minimize resource wastage and increase energy efficiency.Resource allocation problem is NP-hard.Hence finding an exact solution is complicated especially for large-scale datacenters.In this con text,this paper proposes an Energy-oriented Flower Pollination Algorithm(E-FPA)for VM allocation in cloud datacenter environments.A system framework for the scheme was developed to enable energy-oriented allocation of various VMs on a PM.The allocation uses a strategy called Dynamic Switching Probability(DSP).The framework finds a near optimal solution quickly and balances the exploration of the global search and exploitation of the local search.It considers a processor,storage,and memory constraints of a PM while prioritizing energy-oriented allocation for a set of VMs.Simulations performed on MultiRecCloudSim utilizing planet workload show that the E-FPA outperforms the Genetic Algorithm for Power-Aware(GAPA)by 21.8%,Order of Exchange Migration(OEM)ant colony system by 21.5%,and First Fit Decreasing(FFD)by 24.9%.Therefore,E-FPA significantly improves datacenter performance and thus,enhances environmental sustainability.Mohammed Joda Usman Abdul Samad Ismail Hassan Chizari Gaddafi Abdul-Salaam Ali Muhammad Usman Abdulsalam Yau Gital Omprakash Kaiwartya Ahmed Aliyu 2019Journal of Bionic Engineering2019,16,2:13
3Endoscopic ultrasound-guided deep and large biopsy for diagnosis of gastric infiltrating tumors with negative malignant endoscopy biopsies显示文摘AIM: To assess the diagnostic yield and safety of adeep and large biopsy technique under the guidance of endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) for diagnosis of gastric infiltrating tumors with negative malignant endoscopy biopsies.METHODS: From January 2009 to March 2014, 36 patients in whom gastric infiltrating tumors had been diagnosed by EUS received negative results for malignancy after endoscopic biopsies. The deep and large biopsy technique combined bite-on-bite technique with or without endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR) to obtain submucosal tissue from lesions. EUS was used to select the appropriate biopsy sites. If the lesion protruded into the cavity, EMR was performed for removal of the overlying mucosa and then bite-onbite technique was conducted in the resected area to obtain submucosal tissue. If the lesion appeared to be flat or was difficult to lift by injection, the bite-on-bite technique was directly used.RESULTS: Twenty-eight of the 36 patients were treated by EMR followed by bite-on-bite technique, while 8 patients only underwent bite-on-bite technique. Histological results showed 23 of the 36 lesions were poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas, 2 diffuse large B cell lymphomas, 4 mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue-type lymphomas, and 7 undiagnosed. The deep and large biopsy technique provided a definitive and conclusive diagnosis in 29(80.6%) of the 36 patients. The 12 gastric linitis plastica and 6 lymphoma patients received chemotherapy and avoided surgery. Minor oozing of blood in 2 mucosal resection wounds was managed by argon plasma coagulation and in 5 cases after deep biopsies by epinephrine(0.001%). Neither severe hemorrhage nor perforation occurred in any patient.CONCLUSION: The deep and large biopsy technique is superior to ordinary endoscopic biopsy for achieving an accurate diagnosis of gastric infiltrating tumors.This procedure guided by EUS is an effective and safe diagnostic method for gastric infiltrating tumors in which endoscopic biopsy results were negative for malignancy.Xin-Xin Zhou Hang-Hai Pan Ali Usman Feng Ji Xi Jin Wei-Xiang Zhong Hong-Tan Chen 2015World Journal of Gastroenterology2015,21,12:9
4分级结构CdS QDs/BiOCl复合光催化剂的制备及其对有机污染物的降解显示文摘采用简单液相沉积法制备了分级结构Cd S QDs/Bi OCl复合光催化剂,以XRD,SEM,TEM,HRTEM,XPS,EDS,UV-Vis DRS,PL等测试方法分别表征了样品的物相、形貌、组成、元素含量、光吸收性能以及光电特性,并以罗丹明B(Rh B)和苯酚为模型污染物,分别在可见光和紫外光下评价Cd S QDs/Bi OCl复合光催化剂的催化性能。测试结果表明,粒径为5.5μm的Bi OCl微球由大量纳米片有序堆积而成,所负载的粒径为10~20 nm的Cd S QDs均匀分布在Bi OCl纳米片表面。与纯Bi OCl和Cd S QDs/Bi OCl相比,Cd S QDs/Bi OCl-3%表现出最佳的光催化性能,其对Rh B和苯酚的降解速率常数分别是纯Bi OCl的2.6倍和5.3倍。Cd S QDs/Bi OCl复合光催化剂性能的提高可归结于,分级结构Bi OCl有效防止了片层堆积,有助于Cd S QDs的负载,另外,Cd S QDs的负载拓展了复合光催化剂的光吸收性能,均匀分布的Cd S QDs与Bi OCl形成的异质结促进了光生电子-空穴对的有效分离。潘金波 刘建军 马贺成 Usman Ali Khan 左胜利 于迎春 李保山 2018无机化学学报2018,34,8:6
5Detailed investigation of optimized alkali catalyzed transesterification of Jatropha oil for biodiesel production显示文摘The non-edible oils are believed to be one of the major feedstock for the production of biodiesel in future.In the present study,we investigated the production of Jatropha oil methyl esters(JOMEs) via alkali-catalyzed transesterification route.The biophysical characteristics of Jatropha oil were found within the optimal range in accordance with ASTM standards as a substitute diesel fuel.The chemical composition and production yield of as-synthesized biodiesel were confirmed by various analytical techniques such as FT-IR,1H NMR,13 C NMR and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry.A high percentage conversion,~96.09%,of fatty acids into esters was achieved under optimized transesterification conditions with 6 :1 oil to methanol ratio and 0.9 wt% Na OH for 50 min at ~60°C.Moreover,twelve fatty acids methyl esters(FAME) were quantified in the GC/MS analysis and it was interesting to note that the mass fragmentation pattern of saturated,monounsaturated and diunsaturated FAME was comparable with the literature reported values.Waqas Ahmed Muhammad Faizan Nazar Syed Danish Ali Usman Ali Rana Salah Ud-Din Khan 2015Journal of Energy Chemistry2015,24,3:5

7Emerging Roles of Sphingolipid Signaling in Plant Response to Biotic and Abiotic Stresses显示文摘Plant sphingolipids are not only structural components of the plasma membrane and other endomembrane systems but also act as signaling molecules during biotic and abiotic stresses.However,the roles of sphingolipids in plant signal transduction in response to environmental cues are yet to be investigated in detail. In this review,we discuss the signaling roles of sphingolipid metabolites with a focus on plant sphingolipids.We also mention some microbial sphingolipids that initiate signals during their interaction with plants, because of the limited literatures on their plant analogs.The equilibrium of nonphosphorylated and phosphorylated sphingolipid species determine the destiny of plant cells,whereas molecular connections among the enzymes responsible for this equilibrium in a coordinated signaling network are poorly understood.A mechanistic link between the phytohormone-sphingolipid interplay has also not yet been fully understood and many key participants involved in this complex interaction operating under stress conditions await to be identified.Future research is needed to fill these gaps and to better understand the signal pathways of plant sphingolipids and their interplay with other signals in response to environmental stresses.Usman Ali Hehuan Li Xuemin Wang Liang Guo 2018Molecular Plant2018,11,11:4

9Enhancing through-plane thermal conductivity of fluoropolymer composite by developing in situ nano-urethane linkage at graphene–graphene interface显示文摘Attributed to the intense development and complexity in electronic devices,energy dissipation is becoming more essential nowadays.The carbonaceous materials particularly graphene(Gr)-based thermal interface materials(TIMs)are exceptional in heat management.However,because of the anisotropic behavior of Gr in composites,the TIMs having outstanding through-plane thermal conductivity(┴TC)are needed to fulfill the upcoming innovation in numerous devices.In order to achieve this,herein,nano-urethane linkage-based modified Gr and carbon fibers architecture termed as nanourethane linkage(NUL)-Gr/carbon fibers(CFs)is fabricated.Wherein,toluene diisocyanate is utilized to develop a novel but simple NUL to shape a new interface between graphene sheets.Interestingly,the prepared composite of NUL-Gr/CFs with polyvinylidene fluoride matrix shows outstanding performance in heat management.Owing to the unique structure of NUL-Gr/CFs,an unprecedented value of┴TC(~7.96 W·m^–1·K^–1)is achieved at a low filler fraction of 13.8 wt.%which translates into an improvement of^3,980%of pristine polymer.The achieved outcomes elucidate the significance of the covalent interaction between graphene sheets as well as strong bonding among graphene and matrix in the composites and manifest the potential of proposed NUL-Gr/CFs architecture for practical applications.Muhammad Maqbool Haichang Guo Akbar Bashir Ali Usman Adeel YAbid Guansong He Yanjuan Ren Zeeshan Ali Shulin Bai 2020Nano Research2020,13,10:3

12Reverse vaccinology assisted designing of multiepitope-based subunit vaccine against SARS-CoV-2显示文摘Background:Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)linked with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)cause severe illness and life-threatening pneumonia in humans.The current COVID-19 pandemic demands an effective vaccine to acquire protection against the infection.Therefore,the present study was aimed to design a multiepitope-based subunit vaccine(MESV)against COVID-19.Methods:Structural proteins(Surface glycoprotein,Envelope protein,and Membrane glycoprotein)of SARS-CoV-2 are responsible for its prime functions.Sequences of proteins were downloaded from GenBank and several immunoinformatics coupled with computational approaches were employed to forecast B-and T-cell epitopes from the SARS-CoV-2 highly antigenic structural proteins to design an effective MESV.Results:Predicted epitopes suggested high antigenicity,conserveness,substantial interactions with the human leukocyte antigen(HLA)binding alleles,and collective global population coverage of 88.40%.Taken together,276 amino acids long MESV was designed by connecting 3 cytotoxic T lymphocytes(CTL),6 helper T lymphocyte(HTL)and 4 B-cell epitopes with suitable adjuvant and linkers.The MESV construct was non-allergenic,stable,and highly antigenic.Molecular docking showed a stable and high binding affinity of MESV with human pathogenic toll-like receptors-3(TLR3).Furthermore,in silico immune simulation revealed significant immunogenic response of MESV.Finally,MEV codons were optimized for its in silico cloning into the Escherichia coli K-12 system,to ensure its increased expression.Conclusion:The MESV developed in this study is capable of generating immune response against COVID-19.Therefore,if designed MESV further investigated experimentally,it would be an effective vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2 to control and prevent COVID-19.Muhammad Tahir ul Qamar Farah Shahid Sadia Aslam Usman Ali Ashfaq Sidra Aslam Israr Fatima Muhammad Mazhar Fareed Ali Zohaib Ling-Ling Chen 2020Infectious Diseases of Poverty2020,9,5:2

17Scenario of dengue infection & its control in Pakistan: An up-date and way forward显示文摘Dengue fever is one of the major health problems in tropical and subtropical areas throughout the world. The causative agent of dengue fever is the dengue virus which is an enveloped single stranded RNA virus belongs to the family Flaviviridae and has five distinct serotypes(DENV-1,DENV-2, DENV-3, DENV-4 and DENV-5). Dengue virus is transmitted to human via bite of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes. The clinical symptoms of dengue fever ranging from mild to severe form as dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Pakistan is dengue endemic since 1994 but from 2006, Pakistan faced the worst condition regarding dengue in which thousands of people affected by the disease and hundreds of people lost their lives. DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-1 are the prevalent serotypes in Pakistan. Common diagnostic techniques are being used in Pakistan such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,polymerase chain reaction and rapid diagnostic tests, while differential diagnosis, limitations of diagnostic methods and poor health care system are the real challenges in dengue diagnosis.Favorable climatic conditions, unplanned urbanization, travelling etc., are major factors responsible for dengue epidemics in Pakistan.
