| 1 | Analysis of status and countermeasures of cancer incidence and mortality in China显示文摘Cancer is the leading cause of human deaths in the world and produces serious economic burdens. On September 12, 2018, the academic journal A Cancer Journal for Clinicians published an article about the latest statistics of cancers worldwide, which provided a status report on the global burden of 36 cancers in 185 countries worldwide. Cancer has also become a serious public health problem in China and caused more and more attention of the government and people in recent years. | 3 | Dihydromyricetin inhibits migration and invasion of hepatoma cells through regulation of MMP-9 expression显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of dihydromyricetin(DHM)on the migration and invasion of human hepatic cancer cells.METHODS:The hepatoma cell lines SK-Hep-1 and MHCC97L were used in this study.The cells were cultured in RPIM-1640 medium supplemented with 10%fetal bovine serum at 37℃in a humidified 5%CO2incubator.DHM was dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide and diluted to various concentrations in medium before applying to cells.MTT assays were performed to measure the viability of the cells after DHM treatment.Wound healing and Boyden transwell assays were used to assess cancer cell motility.The invasive capacity of cancer cells was measured using Matrigel-coated transwell chambers.Matrix metalloproteinase(MMP)-2/9 activity was examined by fluorescence analysis.Western blot was carried out to analyze the expression of MMP-2,MMP-9,p-38,JNK,ERK1/2 and PKC-δproteins.All data were analyzed by Student’s t tests in GraphPad prism 5.0software and are presented as mean±SD.RESULTS:DHM was found to strongly inhibit the migration of the hepatoma cell lines SK-Hep-1(without DHM,24 h:120±8μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM,24h:65±10μmol/L,P<0.001)and MHCC97L(without DHM,24 h:126±7μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM,24h:74±6μmol/L,P<0.001).The invasive capacity of the cells was reduced by DHM treatment(SK-Hep-1cells without DHM,24 h:67±4μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM,24 h:9±3μmol/L,P<0.001;MHCC97L cells without DHM,24 h:117±8μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM,24 h:45±2μmol/L,P<0.001).MMP2/9 activity was also inhibited by DHM exposure(SK-Hep-1 cells without DHM,24 h:600±26μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM,24 h:100±6μmol/L,P<0.001;MHCC97L cells without DHM,24 h:504±32μmol/L vs 100μmol/L DHM 24 h:156±10μmol/L,P<0.001).Western blot analysis showed that DHM decreased the expression level of MMP-9 but had little effect on MMP-2.Further investigation indicated that DHM markedly reduced the phosphorylation levels of p38,ERK1/2 and JNK in a concentration-dependent manner but had no impact on the total protein levels.In addition,PKC-δprotein,a key protein in the regulation of MMP family protein expression,was up-regulated with DHM treatment.CONCLUSION:These findings demonstrate that DHM inhibits the migration and invasion of hepatoma cells and may serve as a potential candidate agent for the prevention of HCC metastasis. | Qing-Yu Zhang Ran Li Guo-Fang Zeng Bin Liu Jie Liu Yang Shu Zhong-Kao Liu Zhi-Dong Qiu Dong-Jun Wang Hui-Lai Miao Ming-Yi Li Run-Zhi Zhu | 2014 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2014,20,29: | 23 |
| 4 | Efficacy and safety of metformin and sitagliptin based triple antihyperglycemic therapy(STRATEGY):a multicenter,randomized,controlled,non-inferiority clinical trial显示文摘Despite the current guideline's recommendation of a timely stepwise intensification therapy,the 'clinical inertia',termed as the delayed treatment intensification,commonly exists in the real world,which may be partly due to the relatively little substantial evidence and no clear consensus regarding the efficacy and safety of triple oral agents in patients inadequately controlled with dual therapy.In this clinical trial performed in 237 centers in China,5,535 type 2 diabetic patients inadequately controlled by previous therapies were treated with a stable metformin/sitagliptin dual therapy for 20 weeks.The patients who did not reach the glycated hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c) goal were then further randomized into glimepiride,gliclazide,repaglinide,or acarbose group for an additional 24-week triple therapy.A mean HbAlc reduction of 0.85%was observed when sitagliptin was added to the patients inadequately controlled with metformin in 16 weeks.Further HbAlc reductions in the 24-week triple therapy stage were 0.65%in glimepiride group,0.70%in gliclazide group,0.61%in repaglinide group,and 0.45%in acarbose group.The non-inferiority criterion for primary hypotheses was met for gliclazide and repaglinide,but not for acarbose,compared with glimepiride,when added to metformin/sitagliptin dual therapy.The incidences of adverse events(AEs) were 29.2%in the dual therapy stage and30.3%in the triple therapy stage.Metformin/sitagliptin as baseline therapy,with the addition of a third oral antihyperglycemic agent,including glimepiride,gliclazide,repaglinide,or acarbose,was effective,safe and well-tolerated for achieving an HbAlc<7.0%goal in type 2 diabetic patients inadequately controlled with previous therapies.The timely augmentation of up to three oral antihyperglycemic agents is valid and of important clinical benefit to prevent patients from exposure to unnecessarily prolonged hyperglycemia. | Wen Xu Yiming Mu Jiajun Zhao Dalong Zhu Qiuhe Ji Zhiguang Zhou Bin Yao Anhua Mao Samuel S.Engel Bin Zhao Yan Bi Longyi Zeng Xingwu Ran Juming Lu Linong Ji Wenying Yang Weiping Jia Jianping Weng | 2017 | Science China(Life Sciences)2017,60,3: | 19 |

| 7 | Hydrothermal activities and seawater acidification in the Late Devonian F-F transition:Evidence from geochemistry of rare earth elements显示文摘Rare-earth elements(REE) in limestones were measured by ICP-MS from the Yangdi section across the Frasnian-Famennian(F-F) transition in Guilin,Guangxi of South China.The averageΣREE contents of measured samples are 33.32 ppm.The average LREE/HREE ratio is 6.35.Data show LREE-enriched REE distribution pattern in the Yangdi section.Most of samples are characterized by positive Eu anomaly with average of 1.13,and there are two maxima of Eu anomaly just below the F-F boundary.Almost all analytical samples show obvious tetrad effects.Remarkable M-shaped tetrad effects are observed in these samples with positive Eu anomaly.The characters of REE and some relative elements(Fe,Mn,Al,etc.) indicate that hydrothermal activities occurred and resulted in seawater acidification in Upper and Lower Kellwasser horizons of the Late Devonian.The changes of marine environment caused by hydrothermal activities,such as seawater acidification,heavy metal pollution,and eutrophication,would destroy the neritic ecosystem and finally result in the F-F mass extinction. | ZENG JianWei XU Ran GONG YiMing | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,4: | 11 |
| 8 | Epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of infectious mononucleosis in hospitalized children in China:A nationwide retrospective study显示文摘Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)is very common,with the infection rate in adults over 90%worldwide.Infectious mononucleosis(IM)is caused by primary infection with EBV.Most IM patients are generally considered to have a favorable prognosis,but a few patients will also develop complications.Children with severe symptoms will require hospitalization.However,the disease burden of children hospitalized with IM in China has been rarely described.In this study,we included the Face sheets of discharge medical records from 27 member children's hospitals of Futang Research Center of Pediatric Development from Jan 1st,2016 to Dec 31st,2020,and medical information such as gender,age,region,time of admission,length of stay and expenditure were extracted.There were 24,120 IM cases,which accounted for 0.42%(24,120/5,693,262)of all hospitalized cases during this period.The ratio of male to female was 1.48:1.Hospitalization for IM in the 4-6 years age group was the highest among inpatients of all age groups.Case numbers increased year by year between 2016 and 2020,and the monthly hospitalization was generally high from Jul to Sep but reduced from Jan to Feb per year.Bronchitis/pneumonia and hepatic dysfunction were two common complications in hospitalized IM patients.The median length of stay was 8 days,and the median cost of hospitalization was 970.59 US dollars.This study will help understand the epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of hospitalized children with IM in China. | Mengjia Liu Xinyu Wang Linlin Zhang Guoshuang Feng Yueping Zeng Ran Wang Zhengde Xie | 2022 | Virologica Sinica2022,37,5: | 10 |
| 9 | Risks faced by donors of right lobe for living donor liver transplantation显示文摘BACKGROUND:Because of the shortage of deceased donors with livers fit for transplantation,living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)is becoming an attractive alternative.Attention should be paid to the donors,especially to those of the right lobe.In this study,we evaluated the risks faced by donors of the right lobe for adult-to-adult LDLT.METHODS:The perioperative data from 105 consecutive living donors of the right lobe performed in West China Hospital from January 2002 to December 2007 were retrospectively studied.Preoperative evaluation included CT,MRCP,and intraoperative cholangiography,showing liver volume,hepatic vasculature and the biliary system.The standard liver volume(SLV)and the ratio of left lobe volume to SLV were calculated.The right lobe grafts were obtained by transecting the liver on the right side of the middle hepatic vein without inflow vascular occlusion,using an ultrasonic dissector.After operation the donors were monitored in the Intensive Care Unit for about three days.Each donor was followed up for at least 6 months.RESULTS:There was no donor mortality.Major complications occurred in 14 donors(13.3%),of whom 3 received conservative treatment,8 required invasive paracentesis,and 3 required further surgery.All donors were recovered well and resumed their previous occupations.CONCLUSIONS:Donors of the right lobe face low risks.The preoperative evaluation,especially evaluation of the volume of the remnant liver,should be exact.During the operation,the patency of the remnant hepatic vasculature and bile duct must be preserved,and the extent of injury to the remnant liver should be limited as much as possible.The detection and treatment of postoperative complications should be diligently performed. | Ran, Shun Wen, Tian-Fu Yan, Lu-Nan Li, Bo Zeng, Yong Chen, Zhe-Yu Zhang, Yu Liao, Zhi-Xue Liang, Guan-Lin Li, Guo Zhang, Xian-Hua | 2009 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2009,8,6: | 8 |

| 12 | Growth and characterization of 0.8-μm gate length AlGaN/GaN HEMTs on sapphire substrates显示文摘AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) structures were grown on 2 inch sapphire substrates by MOCVD, and 0.8-μm gate length devices were fabricated and measured. It is shown by resistance mapping that the HEMT structures have an average sheet resistance of approximately 380 ?/sq with a uniformity of more than 96%. The 1-mm gate width devices using the materials yielded a pulsed drain current of 784 mA/mm at Vgs=0.5 V and Vds=7 V with an extrinsic transconductance of 200 mS/mm. A 20-GHz unity current gain cutoff frequency (?T ) and a 28-GHz maximum oscillation frequency (?max) were obtained. | 13 | A comparison of atmospheric CO_2 concentration GOSAT-based observations and model simulations显示文摘Satellite observations of atmospheric CO2 are able to truly capture the variation of global and regional CO2 concentration.The model simulations based on atmospheric transport models can also assess variations of atmospheric CO2 concentrations in a continuous space and time,which is one of approaches for qualitatively and quantitatively studying the atmospheric transport mechanism and spatio-temporal variation of atmospheric CO2 in a global scale.Satellite observations and model simulations of CO2 offer us two different approaches to understand the atmospheric CO2.However,the difference between them has not been comprehensively compared and assessed for revealing the global and regional features of atmospheric CO2.In this study,we compared and assessed the spatio-temporal variation of atmospheric CO2 using two datasets of the column-averaged dry air mole fractions of atmospheric CO2(XCO2)in a year from June 2009 to May 2010,respectively from GOSAT retrievals(V02.xx)and from Goddard Earth Observing System-Chemistry(GEOS-Chem),which is a global 3-D chemistry transport model.In addition to the global comparison,we further compared and analyzed the difference of CO2 between the China land region and the United States(US)land region from two datasets,and demonstrated the reasonability and uncertainty of satellite observations and model simulations.The results show that the XCO2 retrieved from GOSAT is globally lower than GEOS-Chem model simulation by 2 ppm on average,which is close to the validation conclusion for GOSAT by ground measures.This difference of XCO2 between the two datasets,however,changes with the different regions.In China land region,the difference is large,from 0.6 to 5.6 ppm,whereas it is 1.6 to 3.7 ppm in the global land region and 1.4 to 2.7 ppm in the US land region.The goodness of fit test between the two datasets is 0.81 in the US land region,which is higher than that in the global land region(0.67)and China land region(0.68).The analysis results further indicate that the inconsistency of CO2concentration between satellite observations and model simulations in China is larger than that in the US and the globe.This inconsistency is related to the GOSAT retrieval error of CO2 caused by the interference among input parameters of satellite retrieval algorithm,and the uncertainty of driving parameters in GEOS-Chem model. | LEI LiPing GUAN XianHua ZENG ZhaoCheng ZHANG Bing RU Fei BU Ran | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,6: | 6 |

| 15 | A Novel and Pleiotropic Factor SLENDER GRAIN3 Is Involved in Regulating Grain Size in Rice显示文摘Grain size is frequently selected during domestication and breeding. It influences the preferences of consumers, thus affecting the commercial value of rice. In present study, a mutant named as SLENDER GRAIN3(sg3) was identified from cultivar Zhenong 41(Oryza sativa L. ssp. indica) with ethyl methanesulfonate(EMS) treatment. Histological analysis showed that the slender grain of sg3 mutant resulted from increased cell division longitudinally and decreased cell division horizontally. Compared with the wild type Zhenong 41, starch granules in sg3 mutant were more closely packed, thus decreasing the chalkiness. Moreover, grain yield per plant in sg3 mutant was improved by 14%. By map-based cloning, SG3 was located on the long arm of chromosome 3 with a physical distance of 82 kb, and a 9-bp deletion in the 5′-UTR of LOC_Os03 g27110 was identified, which upregulated the expression level significantly. Moreover, a molecular marker for SG3 was developed to identify the grain size during the early generation breeding in rice. | 16 | Evaluating the efficacy of endoscopic sphincterotomy on biliary-type sphincter of Oddi dysfunction: A retrospective clinical trial显示文摘BACKGROUND Although endoscopic sphincterotomy(EST)has a positive therapeutic effect on biliary-type sphincter of Oddi dysfunction(SOD),some patients still have little relief after EST,which implies that other functional abdominal pain may also be present with biliary-type SOD and interfere with the diagnosis and treatment of it.AIM To retrospectively assess EST as a treatment for biliary-type SOD and analyze the importance of functional gastrointestinal disorder(FGID)in guiding endoscopic treatment of SOD.METHODS Clinical data of 79 patients with biliary-type SOD(type I and type II)treated with EST at Affiliated Hospital of Guizhou Medical University from January 2014 to January 2019 were retrospectively collected to evaluate the clinical therapeutic effect of EST.The significance of relationship between FGID and biliary-type SOD was analyzed.RESULTS Seventy-nine patients with biliary-type SOD received EST,including 29 type 1 patients and 50 type 2 patients.The verbal rating scale-5(VRS-5)scores before EST were all 3 or 4 points,and the scores decreased after EST;the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).After EST,the serum indexes of alanine aminotransferase,aspartate aminotransferase,alkaline phosphatase and total bilirubin in biliary-type SOD were significantly lower than before(P<0.05).After EST,67(84.8%)and 8(10.1%)of the 79 patients with biliary-type SOD had obviously effective(VRS-5=0 points)and effective treatment(VRS-5=1-2 points),with an overall effectiveness rate of 94.9%(75/79).There was no difference in VRS-5 scores between biliary-type SOD patients with or without FGID before EST(P>0.05).Of 12 biliary-type SOD(with FGID)patients,11 had abdominal pain after EST;of 67 biliary-type SOD(without FGID)patients,0 had abdominal pain after EST.The difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The 11 biliary-type SOD(with FGID)patients with recurrence of symptoms,the recurrence time was about half a year after the EST,and the symptoms were significantly relieved after regular medical treatment.There were 4 cases of postendoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography pancreatitis(5.1%),and no cholangitis,bleeding or perforation occurred.Patients were followed up for 1 year to 5 years after EST,with an average follow-up time of 2.34 years,and there were no long-term adverse events such as sphincter of Oddi restenosis or cholangitis caused by intestinal bile reflux during the follow-up.CONCLUSION EST is a safe and effective treatment for SOD.For patients with type I and II SOD combined with FGID,single EST or medical treatment has limited efficacy.It is recommended that EST and medicine be combined to improve the cure rate of such patients. | Li-Kun Ren Zhi-Yuan Cai Xun Ran Neng-Hong Yang Xing-Zhi Li Hao Liu Chang-Wei Wu Wen-Ying Zeng Min Han | 2021 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2021,9,32: | 3 |
| 17 | Clinical features and risk factors associated with severe COVID-19 patients in China显示文摘Background::Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),which is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2),has rapidly spread throughout the world.In this study,we aimed to identify the risk factors for severe COVID-19 to improve treatment guidelines.Methods::A multicenter,cross-sectional study was conducted on 313 patients hospitalized with COVID-19.Patients were classified into two groups based on disease severity(nonsevere and severe)according to initial clinical presentation.Laboratory test results and epidemiological and clinical characteristics were analyzed using descriptive statistics.Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to detect potential risk factors associated with severe COVID-19.Results::A total of 289 patients(197 nonsevere and 92 severe cases)with a median age of 45.0(33.0,61.0)years were included in this study,and 53.3%(154/289)were male.Fever(192/286,67.1%)and cough(170/289,58.8%)were commonly observed,followed by sore throat(49/289,17.0%).Multivariate logistic regression analysis suggested that patients who were aged≥65 years(OR:2.725,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.317-5.636;P=0.007),were male(OR:1.878,95%CI:1.002-3.520,P=0.049),had comorbid diabetes(OR:3.314,95%CI:1.126-9.758,P=0.030),cough(OR:3.427,95%CI:1.752-6.706,P<0.001),and/or diarrhea(OR:2.629,95%CI:1.109-6.231,P=0.028)on admission had a higher risk of severe disease.Moreover,stratification analysis indicated that male patients with diabetes were more likely to have severe COVID-19(71.4%vs.28.6%,χ2=8.183,P=0.004).Conclusions::The clinical characteristics of those with severe and nonsevere COVID-19 were significantly different.The elderly,male patients with COVID-19,diabetes,and presenting with cough and/or diarrhea on admission may require close monitoring to prevent deterioration. | Ning Jiang Yan-Nan Liu Jing Bao Ran Li Wen-Tao Ni Xing-Yu Tan Yu Xu Li-Ping Peng Xiao-Rong Wang Yi-Ming Zeng Dai-Shun Liu Qing Xue Jia-Shu Li Ke Hu Ya-Li Zheng Zhan-Cheng Gao | 2021 | Chinese Medical Journal2021,,8: | 3 |
| 18 | Variation in hydraulic conductivity of fractured rocks at a dam foundation during operation显示文摘Characterizing the permeability variation in fractured rocks is important in various subsurface applications,but how the permeability evolves in the foundation rocks of high dams during operation remains poorly understood.This permeability change is commonly evidenced by a continuous decrease in the amount of discharge(especially for dams on sediment-laden rivers),and can be attributed to fracture clogging and/or hydromechanical coupling.In this study,the permeability evolution of fractured rocks at a high arch dam foundation during operationwas evaluated by inverse modeling based on the field timeseries data of both pore pressure and discharge.A procedure combining orthogonal design,transient flow modeling,artificial neural network,and genetic algorithm was adopted to efficiently estimate the hydraulic conductivity values in each annual cycle after initial reservoir filling.The inverse results show that the permeability of the dam foundation rocks follows an exponential decay annually during operation(i.e.K/K0=0.97e^(-0.59t)+0.03),with good agreement between field observations and numerical simulations.The significance of the obtained permeability decay function was manifested by an assessment of the long-term seepage control performance and groundwater flow behaviors at the dam site.The proposed formula is also of merit for characterizing the permeability change in riverbed rocks induced by sediment transport and deposition. | Yi-Feng Chen Jun Zeng Hongtao Shi Yifan Wang Ran Hu Zhibing Yang Chuang-Bing Zhou | 2021 | Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2021,13,2: | 3 |

| 20 | Coupling relationships between brachiopods and Girvanella during the Late Devonian F-F transition in Guilin, South China显示文摘The abundance curves derived from area proportions of brachiopods and Girvanella in the thin sections from the Yangdi section, South China, exhibits complex relationships during the Late Devonian Frasnian-Famennian transition. The living activity of brachiopods such as grazing and borrowing did great damage to the growth of Girvanella. However, there was more to just a mere a survival competing relationship between them, Girvanella actually improved marine environments by oxygenating the dysoxic ambient sea-water through photosynthesis in the lower Kellwasser Horizon. Profited from this improvement brachiopods' abundance increased subsequently and suppressed Girvanella again. Nonetheless, without Girvanella's photosynthesis, brachiopods were wiped out by the farther anoxic environments in the upper Kellwasser Horizon.
