ApoB-100, ApoE and CYP7A1 gene polymorphisms in Mexican patients with cholesterol gallstone disease显示文摘AIM: To determine the possible association of the ApoB100 (Xba Ⅰ ), ApoE (Hha Ⅰ ) and CYP7A1 (Bsa Ⅰ ) gene polymorphisms, with the development of cholesterol gallstone disease (GD) in a Mexican population. METHODS: The polymorphisms were analyzed by polymerase chain reaction followed by restriction fragment length polymorphism, in two groups matched by ethnicity, age and sex: patients with GD (n = 101) and stone-free control subjects (n = 101). RESULTS: Allelic frequencies in patients and controls were: 34.16% vs 41.58% (P = 0.124) for X+of ApoB-100; 4.46% vs 5.94% (P = 0.501) for E2, 85.64% vs 78.22% (P = 0.052) for E3, 9.90% vs 15.84% (P = 0.075) for E4 of ApoE; and 25.74% vs 27.72% (P = 0.653) for C of CYP7A1. Differences in genotypic frequencies between the studied groups were not significant (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: These results demonstrated that no association exists between the studied polymorphisms and cholelithiasis in this high prevalent population.Sánchez-Cuén Jaime Aguilar-Medina Maribel Arámbula-Meraz Eliakym Romero-Navarro José Granados Julio Sicairos-Medina Laura Ramos-Payán Rosalío 2010World Journal of Gastroenterology2010,16,37:14
Age distribution, polyps and rectal cancer in the Egyptian population-based cancer registry显示文摘AIM:To describe the clinical and epidemiologic profiles of the disease and to compare the findings with those generated from the previous hospital-based studies.METHODS:The Gharbiah cancer registry is the only population-based cancer registry in Egypt since 1998.We analyzed the data of all colorectal cancer patients included in the registry for the period of 1999-2007.All medical records of the 1364 patients diagnosed in Gharbiah during the study period were retrieved and the following information abstracted:age, residence, diagnosis date, grade, stage, topology, clinical characteristics, and histology variables.Egyptian census data for 1996 and 2006 were used to provide the general population's statistics on age, sex, residence and other related demographic factors. In addition to age-and sex-specific incidence rate analyses,we analyze the data to explore the incidence distribution by rural-urban differences among the 8 districts of the province. We also compared the incidence rates of Gharbiah to the rates of the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results(SEER) data of the United States.RESULTS:Over the 9 year-period,1364 colorectal cancer cases were included. The disease incidence under age 40 years was relatively high(1.3/10 5) while the incidence in the age groups 40 and over was very low(12.0/10 5,19.4/10 5 and 21.2/10 5 in the age groups 40-59 years,60-69 years and > 70 years, respectively). The vast majority of tumors(97.2%) had no polyps and 37.2% of the patients presented with primary lesions in the rectum.Colorectal cancer was more common in patients from urban(55%) than rural(45%) areas.Regional differences in colon and rectal cancer incidence in the 8 districts of the study province may reflect different etiologic patterns in this population. The registry data of Egypt shows a slightly higher incidence of colorectal cancer than the United States in subjects under age 40 years. The results also shows significantly lower incidence of colorectal cancer in subjects over age 40 years compared to the same age group in the United States SEER.CONCLUSION:Low rate of polyps, low incidence in older subjects, and high rate of rectal cancer in Egypt.Future studies should explore clinical and molecular disease patterns.Darlene Veruttipong Amr S Soliman Samuel F Gilbert Taylor S Blachley Ahmed Hablas Mohamed Ramadan Laura S Rozek Ibrahim A Seifeldin 2012World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,30:12
Hepatitis B virus prevalence and transmission risk factors in inflammatory bowel disease patients at Clementino Fraga Filho university hospital显示文摘AIM: To evaluate the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients that followed up in our hospital and try to identify the possible risk factors involved in this infection transmission. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study for which 176 patients were selected according to their arrival for the medical interview. All these patients had already IBD diagnosis. The patient was interviewed and a questionnaire was filled out. RESULTS: In the group of 176 patients whom we examined, we found that 17% (30) were anti-HBc positive. Out of 30 patients with positive anti-HBc, 2.3% (4) had positive HBsAg and negative HBV-DNA. In an attempt to identify the possible HBV infection transmission risk factors in IBD patients, it was observed that 117 patients had been submitted to some kind of surgical procedure, but only 24 patients had positive anti-HBc (P = 0.085). It was also observed that surgery to treat IBD complications was not a risk factor for HBV infection transmission, since we did not get a statically significant P value. However, IBDpatients that have been submitted to surgery to treat IBD complications received more blood transfusions then patients submitted to other surgical interventions (P = 0.015). CONCLUSION: There was a high incidence of positive anti-HBc (17%) and positive HBsAg (2.3%) in IBD patient when compared with the overall population (7.9%).Yolanda Faia Manhes Tolentino Homero Soares Fogaa Cyrla Zaltman Lia Laura Lewis Ximenes Henrique Sérgio Moraes Coelho 2008World Journal of Gastroenterology2008,14,20:10
Multi-scale phylogenetic structure in coastal dune plant communities across the globe显示文摘Aims Studies integrating phylogenetic history and large-scale community assembly are few,and many questions remain unanswered. Here,we use a global coastal dune plant data set to uncover the important factors in community assembly across scales from the local filtering processes to the global long-term diversification and dispersal dynamics.Coastal dune plant communities occur worldwide under a wide range of climatic and geologic conditions as well as in all biogeographic regions. However, global patterns in the phylogenetic composition of coastal dune plant communities have not previously been studied. Methods The data set comprised vegetation data from 18463 plots in New Zealand,South Africa,South America,North America and Europe. The phylogenetic tree comprised 2241 plant species from 149 families. We calculated phylogenetic clustering(Net Relatedness Index,NRI,and Nearest Taxon Index,NTI)of regional dune floras to estimate the amount of in situ diversification relative to the global dune species pool and evaluated the relative importance of land and climate barriers for these diversification patterns by geographic analyses of phylogenetic similarity. We then tested whether dune plant communities exhibit similar patterns of phylogenetic structure within regions. Finally,we calculated NRI for local communities relative to the regional species pool and tested for an association with functional traits(plant height and seed mass)thought to vary along sea–inland gradients.Important Findings Regional species pools were phylogenetically clustered relative to the global pool, indicating regional diversification.NTI showed stronger clustering than NRI pointing to the importance of especially recent diversifications within regions. The species pools grouped phylogenetically into two clusters on either side of the tropics suggesting greater dispersal rates within hemispheres than between hemispheres.Local NRI plot values confirmed that most communities were also phylogenetically clustered within regions.NRI values decreased with increasing plant height and seed mass, indicating greater phylogenetic clustering in communities with short maximum height and good dispersers prone to wind and tidal disturbance as well as salt spray, consistent with environmental filtering along sea–inland gradients.Height and seed mass both showed significant phylogenetic signal, and NRI tended to correlate negatively with both at the plot level.Low NRI plots tended to represent coastal scrub and forest, whereas high NRI plots tended to represent herb-dominated vegetation. We conclude that regional diversification processes play a role in dune plant community assembly, with convergence in local phylogenetic community structure and local variation in community structure probably reflecting consistent coastal-inland gradients. Our study contributes to a better understanding of the globally distributed dynamic coastal ecosystems and the structuring factors working on dune plant communities across spatial scales and regions.Ane Kirstine Brunbjerg Jeannine Cavender-Bares Wolf L.Eiserhardt Rasmus Ejrnæs Lonnie W.Aarssen Hannah L.Buckley Estelle Forey Florian Jansen Jens Kattge Cynthia Lane Roy A.Lubke Angela T.Moles Ana Laura Monserrat Robert K.Peet Julissa Roncal Louise Wootton Jens-Christian Svenning 2014Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,2:9
Titanium dioxide induced inflammation in the small intestine显示文摘AIM:To investigate the effects of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPTiO 2 ) and microparticles (MPTiO 2 ) on the inflammatory response in the small intestine of mice. METHODS: Bl 57/6 male mice received distilled water suspensions containing TiO 2 (100 mg/kg body weight) as NPTiO 2 (66 nm), or MPTiO 2 (260 nm) by gavage for 10 d, once a day; the control group received only distilled water. At the end of the treatment the duodenum, jejunum and ileum were extracted for assessment of cytokines, inflammatory cells and titanium content. The cytokines interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, IL-13, IL-17, IL-23, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), intracellular interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) were evaluated by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in segments of jejunum and ileum (mucosa and underlying muscular tissue). CD4 + and CD8 + T cells, natural killer cells, and dendritic cells were evaluated in duodenum, jejunum and ileum samples fixed in 10% formalin by immuno-histochemistry. The titanium content was determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry. RESULTS: We found increased levels of T CD4 + cells (cells/mm 2 ) in duodenum:NP 1240 ± 139.4, MP 1070 ± 154.7 vs 458 ± 50.39 (P < 0.01); jejunum:NP 908.4 ± 130.3, MP 813.8 ± 103.8 vs 526.6 ± 61.43 (P < 0.05); and ileum:NP 818.60 ± 123.0, MP 640.1 ± 32.75 vs 466.9 ± 22.4 (P < 0.05). In comparison to the control group, the groups receiving TiO 2 showed a statistically significant increase in the levels of the inflammatory cytokines IL-12, IL-4, IL-23, TNF-α, IFN-γ and TGF-β. The cytokine production was more pronounced in the ileum (mean ± SE):IL-12: NP 33.98 ± 11.76, MP 74.11 ± 25.65 vs 19.06 ± 3.92 (P < 0.05); IL-4: NP 17.36 ± 9.96, MP 22.94 ± 7.47 vs 2.19 ± 0.65 (P < 0.05); IL-23: NP 157.20 ± 75.80, MP 134.50 ± 38.31 vs 22.34 ± 5.81 (P < 0.05); TNFα: NP 3.71 ± 1.33, MP 5.44 ± 1.67 vs 0.99± 019 (P < 0.05); IFNγ: NP 15.85 ± 9.99, MP 34.08 ± 11.44 vs 2.81 ± 0.69 (P < 0.05); and TGF-β: NP 780.70 ± 318.50, MP 1409.00 ± 502.20 vs 205.50 ± 63.93 (P < 0.05). 8Arachidyl amido cholanoic acid improves liver glucose and lipid homeostasis in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis via AMPK and mTOR regulation显示文摘BACKGROUND Arachidyl amido cholanoic acid(Aramchol)is a potent downregulator of hepatic stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1(SCD1)protein expression that reduces liver triglycerides and fibrosis in animal models of steatohepatitis. In a phase IIb clinical trial in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH),52 wk of treatment with Aramchol reduced blood levels of glycated hemoglobin A1c,an indicator of glycemic control.AIM To assess lipid and glucose metabolism in mouse hepatocytes and in a NASH mouse model[induced with a 0.1%methionine and choline deficient diet(0.1MCD)]after treatment with Aramchol.METHODS Isolated primary mouse hepatocytes were incubated with 20μmol/L Aramchol or vehicle for 48 h.Subsequently, analyses were performed including Western blot, proteomics by mass spectrometry, and fluxomic analysis with 13C-uniformly labeled glucose. For the in vivo part of the study, male C57BL/6J mice were randomly fed a control or 0.1MCD for 4 wk and received 1 or 5 mg/kg/d Aramchol or vehicle by intragastric gavage for the last 2 wk.Liver metabolomics were assessed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-time of flight-MS for the determination of glucose metabolism-related metabolites.RESULTS Combination of proteomics and Western blot analyses showed increased AMPK activity while the activity of nutrient sensor mTORC1 was decreased by Aramchol in hepatocytes. This translated into changes in the content of their downstream targets including proteins involved in fatty acid(FA)synthesis and oxidation[PACCα/β(S79),SCD1,CPT1A/B,HADHA,and HADHB],oxidative phosphorylation(NDUFA9,NDUFB11,NDUFS1,NDUFV1,ETFDH,and UQCRC2),tricarboxylic acid(TCA)cycle(MDH2,SUCLA2,and SUCLG2),and ribosome(P-p70S6K[T389]and P-S6[S235/S236]).Flux experiments with 13Cuniformely labeled glucose showed that TCA cycle cataplerosis was reduced by Aramchol in hepatocytes,as indicated by the increase in the number of rounds that malate remained in the TCA cycle. Finally, liver metabolomic analysis showed that glucose homeostasis was improved by Aramchol in 0.1MCD fed mice in a dose-dependent manner, showing normalization of glucose,G6P,F6P,UDP-glucose,and Rbl5P/Xyl5P.CONCLUSION Aramchol exerts its effect on glucose and lipid metabolism in NASH through activation of AMPK and inhibition of mTORC1,which in turn activate FAβ-oxidation and oxidative phosphorylation.David Fernández-Ramos Fernando Lopitz-Otsoa Laura Delacruz-Villar Jon Bilbao Martina Pagano Laura Mosca Maider Bizkarguenaga Marina Serrano-Macia Mikel Azkargorta Marta Iruarrizaga-Lejarreta Jesús Sot Darya Tsvirkun Sebastiaan Martijn van Liempd Felix M Goni Cristina Alonso María Luz Martínez-Chantar Felix Elortza Liat Hayardeny Shelly C Lu JoséM Mato 2020World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,34:5
Antibody engineering: facing new challenges in cancer therapy显示文摘Antibody-based therapeutics are beginning to realize the promise enclosed in their early denomination as “magic bullets”. Initial disappointment has turned into clinical and commercial success, and engineered antibodies currently represent over 30% of biopharmaceuticals in clinical trials. Recent structural and functional data have allowed the design of a new generation of therapeutic antibodies, with strategies ranging from complement-mediated and antibody-dependant cellular cytotoxicity enhancement to improved cytotoxic payloads using toxins, drugs, radionucleids and viral delivery. This review considers the structure of different types of recombinant antibodies, their mechanism of action and how their efficacy has been increased using a broad array of approaches. We will also focus on the additional benefits offered by the use of gene therapy methods for the in vivo production of therapeutic antibodies.Laura S■NZ ■ngel M CUESTA Mana COMPTE Luis ■LVAREZ-VALLINA 2005Acta Pharmacologica Sinica2005,26,6:5
Assessment of Methods for Determining Bioavailability of Trace Elements in Soils: A Review显示文摘Trace element-contaminated soils(TECSs) are one of the consequences of the past industrial development worldwide. Excessive exposure to trace elements(TEs) represents a permanent threat to ecosystems and humans worldwide owing to the capacity of metal(loid)s to cross the cell membranes of living organisms and of human epithelia, and their interference with cell metabolism.Quantification of TE bioavailability in soils is complicated due to the polyphasic and reactive nature of soil constituents. To unravel critical factors controlling soil TE bioavailability and to quantify the ecological toxicity of TECSs, TEs are pivotal for evaluating excessive exposure or deficiencies and controlling the ecological risks. While current knowledge on TE bioavailability and related cumulative consequences is growing, the lack of an integrated use of this concept still hinders its utilization for a more holistic view of ecosystem vulnerability and risks for human health. Bioavailability is not generally included in models for decision making in the appraisal of TECS remediation options. In this review we describe the methods for determining the TE bioavailability and technological developments, gaps in current knowledge, and research needed to better understand how TE bioavailability can be controlled by sustainable TECS management altering key chemical properties, which would allow policy decisions for environmental protection and risk management.Jurate KUMPIENE Laura GIAGNONI Bernd MARSCHNER Sébastien DENYS Michel MENCH Kristin ADRIAENSEN Jaco VANGRONSVELD Markus PUSCHENREITER Giancarlo RENELLA 2017Pedosphere2017,27,3:3
Comparative outcome of stapled trans-anal rectal resection and macrogol in the treatment of defecation disorders显示文摘AIM:To prospectively assess the eff icacy and safety of stapled trans-anal rectal resection(STARR) compared to standard conservative treatment, and whether preoperative symptoms and findings at defecography and anorectal manometry can predict the outcome of STARR.METHODS:Thirty patients(Female,28;age:51 ± 9 years) with rectocele or rectal intussusception,a defecation disorder, and functional constipation were submitted for STARR.Thirty comparable patients(Female,30;age 53 ± 13 years),who presented with symptoms of rectocele or rectal intussusception and were treated with macrogol, were assessed.Patients were interviewed with a standardized questionnaire at study enrollment and 38 ± 18 mo after the STARR procedure or during macrogol treatment.A responder was def ined as an absence of the Rome Ⅲ diagnostic criteria for functional constipation.Defecography and rectoanal manometry were performed before and after the STARR procedure in 16 and 12 patients, respectively.RESULTS:After STARR,53% of patients were responders;during conservative treatment,75% were responders. After STARR,30% of the patients reported the use of laxatives,17% had intermittent anal pain,13% had anal leakage,13% required digital facilitation,6% experienced defecatory urgency,6% experienced fecal incontinence, and 6% required re-intervention.During macrogol therapy,23% of the patients complained of abdominal bloating and 13% of borborygmi, and 3% required digital facilitation. No preoperative symptom, defecographic,or manometric finding predicted the outcome of STARR.Post-operative defecography showed a statistically significant reduction(P < 0.05) of the rectal diameter and rectocele. The postoperative anorectal manometry showed that anal pressure and rectal sensitivity were not significantly modified, and that rectal compliance was reduced(P = 0.01).CONCLUSION:STARR is not better and is less safe than macrogol in the treatment of defecation disorders. It could be considered as an alternative therapy in patients unresponsive to macrogol.Ivano Biviano Danilo Badiali Laura Candeloro Fortunée Irene Irene Habib Massimo Mongardini Angelo Caviglia Fiorella Anzini Enrico S Corazziari 2011World Journal of Gastroenterology2011,17,37:3
Neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects of a therapy combining agonists of nicotinic α7 and σ1 receptors in a rat model of Parkinson’s disease显示文摘To date there is no treatment able to stop or slow down the loss of dopaminergic neurons that characterizes Parkinson’s disease. It was recently observed in a rodent model of Alzheimer’s disease that the interaction between the α7 subtype of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor(α7-nAChR)and sigma-1 receptor(σ1-R)could exert neuroprotective effects through the modulation of neuroinflammation which is one of the key components of the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease. In this context, the aim of the present study was to assess the effects of the concomitant administration of N-(3R)-1-azabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3-yl-furo[2,3-c]pyridine-5-carboxamide(PHA)543613 as an α7-nAChR agonist and 2-(4-morpholinethyl)1-phenylcyclohexanecarboxylate(PRE)-084 as aσ1-R agonist in a well-characterized 6-hydroxydopamine rat model of Parkinson’s disease. The animals received either vehicle separately or the dual therapy PHA/PRE once a day until day 14 postlesion.Although no effect was noticed in the amphetamine-induced rotation test, our data has shown that the PHA/PRE treatment induced partial protection of the dopaminergic neurons(15-20%),assessed by the dopamine transporter density in the striatum and immunoreactive tyrosine hydroxylase in the substantia nigra.Furthermore, this dual therapy reduced the degree of glial activation consecutive to the 6-hydroxydopamine lesion,i.e,the 18 kDa translocation protein density and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the striatum, and the CD11b and glial fibrillary acidic protein staining in the substantia nigra.Hence, this study reports for the first time that concomitant activation of α7-nAChR andσ1-R can provide a partial recovery of the nigro-striatal dopaminergic neurons through the modulation of microglial activation. The study was approved by the Regional Ethics Committee(CEEA Val de Loire n°19)validated this protocol(Authorization N°00434.02)on May 15,2014.Steven Vetel Laura Foucault-Fruchard Claire Tronel Frédéric Buron Jackie Vergote Sylvie Bodard Sylvain Routier Sophie Sérrière Sylvie Chalon 2021Neural Regeneration Research2021,16,6:3
Skeletal muscle mitochondrial health and spinal cord injury显示文摘Mitochondria are the main source of cellular energy production and are dynamic organelles that undergo biogenesis, remodeling, and degradation. Mitochondrial dysfunction is observed in a number of disease states including acute and chronic central or peripheral nervous system injury by traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury(SCI), and neurodegenerative disease as well as in metabolic disturbances such as insulin resistance, type Ⅱ diabetes and obesity. Mitochondrial dysfunction is most commonly observed in high energy requiring tissues like the brain and skeletal muscle. In persons with chronic SCI, changes to skeletal muscle may include remarkable atrophy and conversion of muscle fiber type from oxidative to fast glycolytic, combined with increased infiltration of intramuscular adipose tissue. These changes contribute to a proinflammatory environment, glucose intolerance and insulin resistance. The loss of metabolically active muscle combined with inactivity predisposes individuals with SCI to type Ⅱ diabetes and obesity. The contribution of skeletal muscle mitochondrial density and electron transport chain activity to the development of the aforementioned comorbidities following SCI is unclear. A better understanding of the mechanisms involved in skeletal muscle mitochondrial dynamics is imperative to designing and testing effective treatments for this growing population. The current editorial will review ways to study mitochondrial function and the importance of improving skeletal muscle mitochondrial health in clinical populations with a special focus on chronic SCI.Laura C O'Brien Ashraf S Gorgey 2016World Journal of Orthopedics2016,7,10:3
Predictive clinical features of cardioembolic infarction in patients aged 85 years and older显示文摘Objective To assess predictive clinical factors of cardioembolic infarction in very old patients(85 years of age and older). Methods Prospective hospital-based stroke registry('The Sagrat Cor Hospital of Barcelona Stroke Registry')is an acute-care teaching hospital in Barcelona,Catalonia,Spain. From 956 first-ever cardioembolic stroke patients included in the stroke registry over a 24-year period,639 were younger than 85 years of age and 317 were 85 years or older(mean age:88.9 years).Demographics, clinical characteristics, risk factors and early outcome were compared.Predictors of cardioembolic infarction in the oldest age group were assessed by multivariate analyses. Results In a logistic regression model based on demographics, risk factors, clinical features and complications, female gender(odds ratio[OR]=1.74,95%confidence interval[CI]:1.27–2.39),heart failure(OR=2.27,95%CI:1.46–3.56),altered consciousness(OR=1.76,95%CI:1.28–2.42),and infectious complications(OR=2.01,95%CI:1.39–2.91)were predictors of cardioembolic stroke in the oldest age group.By contrast, heavy smoking, heart valve disease, hypertension, headache, early seizures, sensory deficit, and involvement of the posterior cerebral artery were independently associated with cardioembolic stroke in the younger group. Conclusions Identification of a differential clinical profile of cardioembolic stroke between patients aged 85 years or more and those younger than 85 years helps clinicians to the optimal management of ischemic infarction in the oldest segment of the population.Ana Maria Carbajo-García Jonatan Cortés AdriàArboix Joan Massons Laura Díez Enric Vergés Jordi Arboix-Alió Luís García-Eroles 2019Journal of Geriatric Cardiology2019,16,11:3
Lipotoxicity in the liver显示文摘Obesity due to excessive food intake and the lack of physical activity is becoming one of the most serious public health problems of the 21stcentury. With the increasing prevalence of obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is also emerging as a pandemic. While previously this pathophysiological condition was mainly attributed to triglyceride accumulation in hepatocytes, recent data show that the development of oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, cell death, inflammation and fibrosis are mostly due to accumulation of fatty acids, and the altered composition of membrane phospholipids. In fact, triglyceride accumulation might play a protective role, and the higher toxicity of saturated or trans fatty acids seems to be the consequence of a blockade in triglyceride synthesis. Increased membrane saturation can profoundly disturb cellular homeostasis by impairing the function of membrane receptors, channels and transporters. However, it also inducesendoplasmic reticulum stress via novel sensing mechanisms of the organelle's stress receptors. The triggered signaling pathways in turn largely contribute to the development of insulin resistance and apoptosis. These findings have substantiated the lipotoxic liver injury hypothesis for the pathomechanism of hepatosteatosis. This minireview focuses on the metabolic and redox aspects of lipotoxicity and lipoapoptosis, with special regards on the involvement of endoplasmic reticulum stress responses.Veronika Zámbó Laura Simon-Szabó Péter Szelényi va Kereszturi Gábor Bánhegyi Miklós Csala 2013World Journal of Hepatology2013,5,10:3
Paclobutrazol and Its Use in Fruit Production:A Review显示文摘There are documentary records referring to paclobutrazol(PBZ)as a growth bioregulator that inhibits the gibberellin synthesis and its application increases yields in fruit and vegetable crop productions. Its agronomic management includes it as an emerging technology to reduce vigour, promote flower induction and flower development in fruit trees with increased economic returns. Its use is banned in some countries because of concerns about residues that can cause harmful effects on the environment. Therefore, the aim of this article was to collect, analyse and summarise relevant information on the use of PBZ in fruit tree production and its possible risks to the environment. The results obtained indicated that the application of PBZ can be effective in solving some problems related to flowering if it is applied in the right amount and at the right time. However,it is necessary to elucidate the physiological processes with which it is associated and its response to be taken into account to increase yield.PBZ is currently used in fruit trees such as mango, lime, apple and guava, increasing their productivity. However, some studies have shown its residual effect on the environment. Therefore,PBZ is a viable strategy, because it presents a series of advantages in the production of fruit trees. However,it is vital to generate protocols that seek its regulation with a rational and sustainable approach.Laura Raquel Orozco-Meléndez Ofelia Adriana Hernández-Rodríguez Oscar Cruz-Álvarez Loreto Robles-Hernández Graciela Dolores Avila-Quezada Esteban Sánchez Chavez DamiánAarón Porras-Flores Dámaris Leopoldina Ojeda-Barrios 2022Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany2022,91,1:2
Effects of organic chromium supplementation to finishing lambs diet on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality显示文摘The objective of this study was to evaluate supplemental organic chromium(Cr) to finishing lambs on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and meat quality. Eighteen Suffolk lambs(age(4.5±0.2) mon;(25.8±3.6) kg body weight(BW)) were randomly assigned to three levels of supplemental organic Cr(0.0, 0.2 and 0.4 mg kg–1 dry matter(DM)) in a complete random design. Growth performance was evaluated for 70 d, and then lambs were slaughtered to study carcass characteristics and chemical composition of meat. Orthogonal contrasts were performed(contrast one-average level 0.2 ppm Cr vs. average level 0.4 ppm Cr; contrast two-level 0 vs. average levels(0.2+0.4) ppm Cr). Orthogonal polynomials were used to estimate the linear and quadratic effects of Cr concentrations. Growth and carcass performance were not affected by supplemental organic Cr. Muscle conformation and leg perimeter linearly increased(P<0.05) as organic Cr level increased in the diet. Kidney fat decreased linearly(P<0.05) as supplemental Cr increased. In Longissimus dorsi(LD), the ash content decreased linearly, and shear force(kg cm–2) increased(P<0.05) as organic Cr level increased in the diet. It is concluded that organic Cr did not affect growth performance, but it improved positively the muscle conformation, reduced kidney fat, whereas in LD there was an increment in shear force in finishing carcass lambs.Laura Moreno-Camarena Ignacio Domínguez-Vara José Bórquez-Gastelum Juan Sánchez-Torres Juan Pinos-Rodríguez Antonia Mariezcurrena-Berasain Ernesto Morales-Almaráz Abdelfattah Z M Salem 2015Journal of Integrative Agriculture2015,14,3:2
Current systematic reviews and meta-analyses of COVID-19显示文摘BACKGROUND Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has left a significant impact on the world's health, economic and political systems;as of November 20,2020,more than 57 million people have been infected worldwide, with over 1.3 million deaths. While the global spotlight is currently focused on combating this pandemic through means ranging from finding a treatment among existing therapeutic agents to inventing a vaccine that can aid in halting the further loss of life.AIM To collect all systematic reviews and meta-analyses published related to COVID-19 to better identify available evidence, highlight gaps in knowledge, and elucidate further meta-analyses and umbrella reviews that are yet to be performed.METHODS We explored studies based on systematic reviews and meta-analyses with the keyterms, including severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS),SARS virus, coronavirus disease,COVID-19,and SARS coronavirus-2.The included studies were extracted from Embase,Medline, and Cochrane databases. The publication timeframe of included studies ranged between January 01,2020,to October 30,2020.Studies that were published in languages other than English were not considered for this systematic review. The finalized full-text articles are freely accessible in the public domain.RESULTS Searching Embase,Medline, and Cochrane databases resulted in 1906,669,and 19 results, respectively, that comprised 2594 studies.515 duplicates were subsequently removed, leaving 2079 studies. The inclusion criteria were systematic reviews or meta-analyses.860 results were excluded for being a review article, scope review, rapid review, panel review,or guideline that produced a total of 1219 studies. After screening articles were categorized, the included articles were put into main groups of clinical presentation,epi-demiology,screening and diagnosis, severity assessment, special populations, and treatment.Subsequently, there was a second subclassification into the following groups:gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, neurological, stroke, thrombosis, anosmia and dysgeusia, ocular manifestations, nephrology, cutaneous manifestations,D-dimer,lymphocyte,anticoagulation,antivirals,convalescent plasma,immunosuppressants,corticosteroids,hydroxychloroquine,renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, technology, diabetes mellitus, obesity, pregnancy, children, mental health, smoking, cancer, and transplant.CONCLUSION Among the included articles,it is clear that further research is needed regarding treatment options and vaccines. With more studies, data will be less heterogeneous, and statistical analysis can be better applied to provide more robust clinical evidence. This study was not designed to give recommendations regarding the management of COVID-19.Mahmoud Nassar Nso Nso Mostafa Alfishawy Anastasia Novikov Salim Yaghi Luis Medina Bahtiyar Toz Sofia Lakhdar Zarwa Idrees Yungmin Kim Dawa Ongyal Gurung Raheel S Siddiqui David Zheng Mariam Agladze Vikram Sumbly Jasmine Sandhu Francisco Cuevas Castillo Nadya Chowdhury Ravali Kondaveeti Sakil Bhuiyan Laura Guzman Perez Riki Ranat Carlos Gonzalez Harangad Bhangoo John Williams Alaa Eldin Osman Joyce Kong Jonathan Ariyaratnam Mahmoud Mohamed Ismail Omran Mariely Lopez Akwe Nyabera Ian Landry Saba Iqbal Anoosh Zafar Gondal Sameen Hassan Ahmed Daoud Bahaaeldin Baraka Theo Trandafirescu Vincent Rizzo 2021World Journal of Virology2021,10,4:2
